Hattie Howell Howard

Hattie Howell Howard, born about ten miles east of Knob Creek Farm at Ball Hollow in 1886, married Chester Howard in 1908, a financially successful merchant and holder of several public offices in Howardstown. Her brother, Jim Howell, was a prosperous Hodgenville businessman who built the Nancy Lincoln Inn, a gift shop and restaurant next to the Lincoln Birthplace Memorial. In 1928, Hattie and her husband Chester bought a 308-acre parcel that included the 228-acre site of the former Knob Creek Farm so Hattie could have her own Lincoln place.
