Waring was a pioneer in the oil industry having been associated with the Standard Oil Co since its founding in 1874 and was one of those men instrumental in building up the oil industry of the world, along with John D. Rockefeller. Mr Waring held various posts in the Standard Oil Co and was considered an authority on lubricating oils. He was also responsible for the formation of the Plainfield Trust Company in 1902, one of the leading banks in Central Jersey, now the United National Bank. - NRHP, 12 May 1979
