A Roof Garden Ballroom, or Roof Top Gardens, is a dance and entertainment venue built on the roof of a building. Popular before the advent of modern air conditioning, these open-air or highly windowed rooftop halls were erected in cities and resorts across the United States, allowing summer crowds to be cooled by natural breezes while dancing the Fox Trot, Swing and Jitterbug. During the 1930s, the Roof Garden Ballroom concept reached its golden peak as a defining feature of American nightlife and the Big Band Era. - AsNotedIn
