Colonia Department (Spanish: Departamento de Colonia) is a first-level administrative division of Uruguay, located in the southwestern part of the country along the Rio de la Plata. It is bordered by the departments of San Jose and Soriano to the east and south, and by the Rio de la Plata and the Uruguay River to the south and west, respectively. The capital of the department is the city of Colonia del Sacramento.
