Salto Department (Spanish: Departamento de Salto) is a first-level administrative division of Uruguay located in the northern part of the country. It is bordered by the departments of Artigas to the north, Paysandu to the south, and Rivera to the east, while its western boundary is formed by the Uruguay River, which separates it from Argentina. The capital of the department is the city of Salto.

Geography
Salto Department lies within Uruguay's inland river region and is characterized by plains and gently undulating terrain. Its western boundary is defined by the Uruguay River, which plays a central role in the region's landscape, agriculture, and transportation. Numerous streams and tributaries flow westward toward the river, contributing to fertile soils across much of the area. Climate
The department has a humid subtropical climate, marked by hot summers, mild winters, and precipitation distributed relatively evenly throughout the year. Salto experiences some of the highest summer temperatures in Uruguay, while winters remain generally moderate.
