Hospital del Estudio, University of Salamanca

  • English: Rector's Office
  • Spanish: Rectorado de la Universidad de Salamanca
  • English: Study Hospital of the University of Salamanca

The Hospital del Estudio, or Hospital of Study, is the oldest surviving building of the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain, founded in 1413 to provide medical care and lodging for impoverished students. Originally named the Hospital of Saint Thomas Aquinas, the structure features a notable Plateresque portal rich in heraldic symbolism, including the shields of Castile and Leon and the Catholic Monarchs. While its charitable functions ceased in 1810, the building has served various academic roles — once housing the university's historical archives and currently serving as the seat of the Rectorate. - AsNotedIn
