Hanbury Street in London, England, runs through Spitalfields in the Borough of Tower Hamlets, part of the historic East End. The street developed as a Georgian and early-Victorian shop road, later absorbed into the working district of Whitechapel. Its most somber association is with the Whitechapel Murders: in September 1888, Annie Chapman, Jack the Ripper's second victim, was found in the yard of No 29 Hanbury Street, a house since demolished but similar in appearance to No 24.
