Gov Thomas Prence
English
Thomas Prence was a long-serving political leader of Plymouth Colony, rising from early settler to multiple terms as governor. Arriving in 1621 on the FORTUNE, he quickly became one of the colony's most influential magistrates, helping guide major administrative and financial decisions, including the Undertakers' effort to assume and repay Plymouth's debts. Known for strict religious views and firm governance, Prence oversaw periods of expansion, legal development, and complex relations with Indigenous nations and rival European powers. He lived in Plymouth and later Eastham, shaping colonial policy for more than four decades. Prence died in 1673, remembered as one of Plymouth's most enduring and authoritative leaders. - AsNotedIn
