William Paddock
American
William Paddock, born about 1752 in Middletown in the Connecticut Colony, stands as a New England patriarch whose long life bridged the final decades of the colonial era and the early American republic. Married to Lucy Loveland in 1774, he raised a large family whose movements trace the spread of Paddock and Loveland descendants from Connecticut into upstate New York. During the American Revolution he served as a tythingman, an official charged with enforcing community standards and overseeing Sabbath conduct — an office reflecting both civic responsibility and the moral expectations of eighteenth-century New England. He died in 1834 and was buried at Litchfield Cemetery in Herkimer County, New York. - AsNotedIn
