Cheeseburger

A first-order take on the Classic American Hamburger

A Cheeseburger is a grilled beef patty served on a white bun that is split, buttered, and browned on a griddle. A slice of cheese — typically mild cheddar — is laid over the patty as it cooks. The classic build includes mayonnaise, ketchup, a touch of yellow mustard, fresh tomato slices, dill pickle chips, sliced yellow onions, and iceberg lettuce. A popular choice for cheese is the American slice (once called American Cheese until the government pointed out that cheese needs to be at least 51 percent milk). Excellent cheese options range from European Brie or Gouda to American Pepper Jack or a dependable blue. The best choice after Cheddar is what Americans call Swiss, known in Switzerland as Emmental. Adding crispy American bacon to a cheeseburger is widely considered a culinary masterpiece. - AsNotedIn
