Hardboard is a generic term for a man-made wood panel composed of wood fibers consolidated under heat and pressure. A type of fiberboard, the name hardboard was first used in England in 1898 for a stiff board made by hot-pressing waste paper. Later versions were composed of 100 percent wood fibers obtained from wood chips, sawdust, and board trimmings that are reduced to fine particles by grinding or by steam before being pressed into dense, uniform panels. - AsNotedIn
